Wow what a
year, where to start? Well 2013 has been a year of change at the Pollok club, with
myself (Hazel Bracken) now instructor at the club, having taken over from Scott
McMillan. I am so grateful for this
opportunity, he has passed on a club with fantastic students full of huge
potential and I am very excited for the future… bring on 2014!
Annual
Awards night 2013
2013 saw us
start the year with the Annual Awards night, where we celebrated the successes
of 2012 and set new goals for 2013. I’m
looking forward to this year’s awards night on 22nd February 2014
because 2013 has been a cracking year for the club and we have a lot to look
back on and celebrate!

Colour belt gradings
2013 has seen Pollok students performing consistently well
at the colour belt gradings. This is a
reflection of the hard work and effort put in by all the students in
preparation for the gradings. Keep this
up and I’m sure it won’t be long before Pollok gets its first black belts!

Fundraising
This year has also seen us do a lot more fundraising for the
Pollok club and I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped
with this. Whether it’s been the
sponsored run in Pollok Park, ‘Guessing the number of sweets in the jar’ or bag
packing in B&M, everything has made a difference and is going to help
support the club’s students.

Competitions
And of course this blog would not be complete without
mentioning the club’s success at competitions.
This year we’ve had students competing at the Scottish, English, Welsh,
British and World championships. Congratulations
to all those who have competed and medalled, and we can now boast current Scottish
(Chiara McIntyre and Louise MacDonald) and British (Craig Dalziel) champions
amongst us. All of the club’s
competitors have gone into each competition and given it their all, and
although they’ve not necessarily won every time, they are continually learning and
improving for the next competition. I truly
believe that if they keep working hard and striving for improvement then all
these students have the potential to be future World champions!

I just want to thank all the students and parents for such a
great year and I’m looking forward to another busy and successful 2014!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
